PIEK’s Interconnect Designer Certification training

The PIEK’s Interconnect Designer Certification training is a basic training that caters for the designers and lay outers working for the electronics industry. What will NOT be a topic in this training is how to use the CAD software that is commonly used in PB design. First of all because there are several different programs available each with their own specific functions and second of all because suppliers of these software packages offer support themselves.

In this training we will focus on the ins and outs of PB design. The designer stands at the beginning of the process of manufacturing of electronic products. Failures and mistakes made at this early stage will revenge itself throughout the entire process and might have a negative impact on the optimum functionality and reliability of the end product.

Topics in this training are how to set the design rules for optimum reliability and achieve the best quality at a proper price. The student will get an insight in board manufacturing and assembly processes and their pitfalls where bad design can have disastrous effects.

The training will lead you through an array of aspects to consider during the design process, it will quote from various documents that are applicable for design as well as manufacturing and assembly purposes and give you an thorough insight of DFX (Design For Excellence) principles.

It also discusses the specific requirements of IPC-7351, the document on land pattern geometries for surface mounted components.

The PIEK’s Interconnect Designer certification is suitable for the following target group:

The PIEK’s Interconnect Designer Certification training is intended for all designers and lay outers that seek extensive knowledge on the relationship between design rules and the issues related to board manufacturing and assembly. If you want to become more confident in the proper application of contemporary design rules then this is “must attend” training.
Especially this will be the case when you are a design service provider. Survival of your company will be highly depending on how satisfied your customers will be, make one mistake which costs your customer a lot of money and you might lose an important customer, eventually maybe even your company.

However it might also be a very interesting training for all people working at OEM’s or EMS who actually act as the interface between their company and a design service provider. In this case the drive might be to assure that all parties “speak the same language” and make you more confident in your negotiations.

Application of the PIEK’s Interconnect Designer certification.

The knowledge gained in this training on contemporary design issues, rules and the problems that might occur when neglecting them is directly applicable the moment you walk out of this training. With ever increasing product complexity and higher demands on behalf of customers, both in manufacturing and assembly as well as the users of the final finished products it is necessary to stay up-to-date and in line with the latest techniques and requirements. The certificate granted to you provides you with the physical proof of knowledge gained and might be a quality token for your customers. The extensive syllabus you receive will prove to be a valuable companion in your quest for the optimum design quality.

The added value of the PIEK’s Interconnect Designer certification training.

The fewer mistakes are made at the beginning of the electronics manufacturing process, aka in the design stage, the less money is lost correcting these mistakes in a later stage, for instance by reduction of scrap, rework, modification, redesign, recalls etc.. A designer who knows the relationship between the design rules and manufacturing and assembly capabilities (or rather the restrictions), will implement this knowledge in his designs and achieve better results, both financial and in quality output. Employees at OEM’s profit from this training in that they have to fulfill the difficult task of translating their companies product requirements to their service provider. The more uniform and clearer these are communicated the less risks of failures will be the result. Failures that stay unnoticed until it is “too late” and products have to be scrapped or expensive recall actions performed.
