The IPC J-STD-001 is increasingly required in contracts worldwide and as a result the demand for certification is increasing. And this is not just because the defence-industry is running at full power, but also because more and more electronics producing companies realize how valuable this document can be for their production.

The importance of the IPC J-STD-001 for the electronic production processes is high, it is an important document if it is about providing information in relationship with assembly processes in general and soldering processes more specific. In the past often it was believed to be a document that would only be of interest to the defence-industry, maybe because of the fact that it was based on a military standard.

Fortunately, more and more companies understand the importance of this standard in and that this can be of value for any company assembling electronic products, no, even more that it is of value. Where else can I find which materials, like solder alloys and flux, I may use depending on the product class I produce. And how about the (hand)tools and (solder)equipment to be used? To what do I have to pay attention when selecting these? You will find all this in the IPC J-STD-001. Also, topics such as competence of the staff, ESD, and process control are dealt with. Furthermore, attention is given to cleaning and cleanliness testing. And of course, you will find the acceptance criteria for soldered connections, to terminals, as well as through-hole and SMD-components. Furthermore, various solder techniques like wave soldering and reflow soldering will be discussed. In addition, the document goes into coating and potting of electronic products and the use of adhesive. As you can see a multitude of interesting themes are to be found in the IPC J-STD-001, and we didn’t even all of them. Topics that all will be discussed during the training.

PIEK International Education Centre offers this training already since many years and thus our trainers have an extensive experience on an international level, experience they are happy to share with the training participants.
